Rajasthan Lok Sabha Elections 2024: As the political arena heats up in the upcoming elections, BJP's incumbent candidate, Choudhary, finds himself navigating a challenging landscape. Despite seeking re-election, Choudhary faces a barrage of allegations questioning his efficiency in office.

Barmer constituency of Rajasthan will have a repoll of votes on 8th May,2024, due to the violation of votes secretly. Four members of the accused party have been suspended. Kailash Choudhary of the BJP is contesting against Umeda Ram Beniwal of the INC. Stay tuned for the latest updates from the Barmer Lok Sabha elections.

Barmer, a parliamentary constituency in Rajasthan, holds the distinction of being the second-largest in the country. It encompasses the third and fifth largest districts in India, Jaisalmer and Barmer, respectively, along with eight Assembly segments: Jaisalmer, Barmer, Sheo, Baytoo, Pachpadra, Siwana, Gudhamalani, and Chohtan.

Kailash Choudhary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the sitting Member of Parliament in Barmer, preceding Col. Son Ram (BJP, 2014), and Harish Choudhary (Congress, 2009).

Choudhary has been fielding once again for the Lok Sabha elections in the constituency, scheduled for April 26, while Umeda Ram Beniwal is the Congress’ candidate in this Lok Sabha election.

A three-way contest is anticipated among the BJP, Congress, and Independent candidate Ravindra Singh Bhati, a popular youth leader known for his appeal among Jat and Rajput voters.

Despite being denied a BJP ticket, Bhati has drawn significant interest by independently filing his nomination papers, reflecting strong grassroots support.

BJP's Choudhary is seeking re-election amidst allegations of inefficiency and faced a tough battle against anti-incumbency sentiments.

Caste dynamics, particularly with the Jat community, may influence the election outcome, with the Congress fielding Umeda Ram Beniwal, and Bhati's candidacy further complicating the landscape.

Key electoral issues in the constituency include a water crisis exacerbated by groundwater depletion; farmers’ issues including sandstorms, locust invasions, and challenges like higher minimum support price to farmers, crop insurance, and drought mitigation.

There is also resistance to renewable energy initiatives and protests against land use. An upcoming oil refinery project promises economic growth but raises questions about environmental and social impacts.

Despite its strategic importance as it shares a long border with Pakistan, Barmer suffers from inadequate infrastructure, particularly in remote areas near the Desert National Park.

In the upcoming elections, addressing these pressing issues will be crucial for candidates vying for the support of Barmer's diverse electorate.
