Maharashtra has a total of 48 Lok Sabha seats, making it one of the states with the highest number of parliamentary constituencies. These constituencies are crucial for any party or coalition aiming to secure a majority in the Lok Sabha.
Key candidates in the Maharashtra Lok Sabha Elections 2024 include several prominent political figures. Sharad Pawar (NCP) is expected to contest from Baramati, while Supriya Sule (NCP) will likely defend her seat. Uddhav Thackeray (Shiv Sena) and Aaditya Thackeray (Shiv Sena) are also significant candidates. Other notable figures include Devendra Fadnavis (BJP), who is expected to play a key role in BJP's campaign, and Ashok Chavan (INC).
In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally, Shiv Sena, achieved a significant victory in Maharashtra. The BJP won 23 seats, while Shiv Sena secured 18 seats. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won 4 seats, and the Indian National Congress (INC) managed to win only 1 seat. This performance was pivotal in ensuring the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) overall majority in the Lok Sabha.
With the second highest number of seats in their account, it becomes an important state as it has the potential to decide the winner of any Lok Sabha Elections in clutch situations. Maharashtra sends 48 members to the Lok Sabha and 19 members to the Rajya Sabha. In 2019, BJP won 23 seats while its alliance partner, the Shiv Sena, got 18. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has managed to retain four of its seats. The Congress managed to retain only one seat in the state. Maharashtra is the only state in 2024 Lok Sabha elections which will see two warring factions of same party on opposing sides of the political divide. Two regional heavyweights- Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar have seen their parties split down the middle. The Baramati seat is in the limelight due to growing buzz that Sunetra Pawar, NCP leader Ajit Pawar's wife, could be fielded to take on incumbent MP Supriya Sule, the daughter of Sharad Pawar.
