Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray addressed a press conference in Mumbai on May 20. He said people are excited for voting but the slow and strenous process is resulting in low turnout. The people have turned up in huge numbers to vote but EC seems to be taking sides. EC representatives have not made proper arrangements for senior citizens, people are standing in queues for hours outside the voting centres and when they enter polling booth, it is taking too long to cast votes, alleged former Maharashtra CM Thackeray. In the fifth round of the Lok Sabha elections, which will take place today for 49 seats across eight states and union territories, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to cast their ballots in huge numbers on Monday.

In an effort to help the 21,665 people with disabilities who make up the electorate this year from their homes to the polls, the district administration plans to offer wheelchair-accessible buses and taxi services.

In addition to the volunteers assigned to help voters with disabilities at each voting place, the suburban district collectorate will also set up 613 rickshaws and vans at 1,106 polling places. Low floor electric wheelchair taxis have already been reserved, and the district will offer free BEST bus trips to handicapped voters who registered via the Saksham application.
