Veer Baal Diwas

Veer Baal Diwas, celebrated annually on December 26, is dedicated to honoring the courage and sacrifice of Guru Gobind Singh’s younger sons, Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh. These young martyrs, aged just 9 and 6, chose death over abandoning their faith, leaving an indelible mark on India’s history of valor. In 2024, Veer Baal Diwas will be observed with nationwide events, including a special program where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation, reinforcing the importance of this inspiring legacy.

On Thursday December 26, 2024, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take part in Veer Baal Diwas celebrations and launch the ‘Suposhit Gram Panchayat Abhiyan.’ This initiative aims to enhance nutritional outcomes across India by improving the implementation of nutrition-related services and encouraging community participation. The Prime Minister’s address will focus on the sacrifices of the Sahibzadas and the role of children as the foundation of India’s future.

History of Veer Baal Diwas

The roots of Veer Baal Diwas trace back to 1704, during a turbulent time in Indian history. Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Sikh Guru, was leading a fierce struggle against Mughal oppression. His younger sons, Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh, were captured and subjected to immense pressure to renounce their Sikh faith. Despite their tender age, the Sahibzadas refused, standing firm in their beliefs. As a result, they were cruelly bricked alive at Sirhind, Punjab. Their martyrdom remains a profound example of resilience, bravery, and commitment to righteousness.

Recognizing their sacrifice, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared December 26 as Veer Baal Diwas in 2022, ensuring their legacy inspires future generations. This day now serves as a reminder of the importance of standing firm against injustice.

Significance of Veer Baal Diwas

Veer Baal Diwas holds deep cultural and moral significance. It is a tribute to the indomitable spirit of the Sahibzadas, who exemplified courage and devotion in the face of adversity. The day inspires children to uphold their principles and highlights the importance of bravery, resilience, and dedication as cornerstones of a strong nation. By celebrating Veer Baal Diwas, India fosters a sense of pride in its rich heritage and honors the values that define its cultural fabric.
