Continuous heavy rainfall in Lucknow and surrounding districts has led to precautionary school closures today, August 4, 2025. Following orders from the District Magistrate, all board-run schools from classes 1 to 12 in Lucknow, Bareilly, Sultanpur, Sitapur, and Ambedkarnagar have been shut down for the day.
The District Inspector of Schools has instructed authorities to notify and recall students who may already be en route via school buses or vans. The decision comes as Lucknow recorded its highest seasonal rainfall of 61.5 mm, with Aliganj receiving 40.4 mm.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall on Monday and Tuesday, predicting similar conditions over the next 24 to 36 hours. A significant drop in temperature was also observed, with Sunday’s maximum temperature at 28.5°C (4.8° below normal) and the minimum at 27.2°C.
Weather Patterns and Forecast
According to the Amausi weather center, the monsoon trough has shifted northward, passing through Shamli, Shahjahanpur, and Lucknow. The system is further intensified by a cyclonic circulation and western disturbance, increasing the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall across multiple UP districts.
Atul Kumar Singh, Senior Scientist at IMD, stated that while intense rainfall is expected to persist on Monday, a gradual reduction is likely from August 5 (Tuesday).
Residents are advised to stay updated with weather alerts and avoid unnecessary travel. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to prevent waterlogging and related disruptions.
