The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has announced a recruitment drive for Assistant Loco Pilots (ALP), offering approximately 9,900 vacancies. Candidates can apply online from April 10 to May 9, 2025, as per the short notification released by the RRB. The detailed notification will soon be published on the official RRB regional websites.
This recruitment presents a new opportunity for candidates who missed the ALP Recruitment 2024 or were unable to clear the First Stage Computer-Based Test (CBT-1). Last year, the Railways initially announced 5,696 ALP vacancies, later increasing them to 18,799.
Eligibility CriteriaCandidates must have either passed Class 10 along with an ITI certificate in a relevant trade or completed Class 10 with a 3-year engineering diploma in a related field. The age limit is 18 to 30 years, with relaxations of 5 years for SC/ST candidates and 3 years for OBC candidates.
Selection ProcessThe selection process will likely consist of four stages: First Stage CBT, Second Stage CBT, Computer-Based Aptitude Test, and Document Verification. Only candidates who clear the First Stage CBT will be eligible for the Second Stage CBT. Those who qualify in the second stage will proceed to the Aptitude Test, followed by final document verification.
Exam PatternThe First Stage CBT will be a 60-minute test with 75 questions on Mathematics, Reasoning, General Science, and GK/Current Affairs. Candidates must score a minimum of 40% (UR), 30% (OBC/SC), or 25% (ST) to qualify. There will be a negative marking of ⅓ marks per wrong answer.
The Second Stage CBT will be divided into two parts. Part A will consist of 100 questions in 90 minutes, covering the same subjects as CBT-1. Part B will focus on trade-related syllabus, with 75 questions to be completed in 60 minutes. All candidates must score at least 35% in Part B, while the qualifying marks for Part A remain the same as CBT-1.
Candidates who clear both stages will take the Computer-Based Aptitude Test, where they must score at least 42 marks to move forward. There is no negative marking in this stage.
Application FeeThe application fee is Rs. 500 for General/OBC candidates, of which Rs. 400 will be refunded after appearing for CBT-1. For SC/ST/EWS/Female/PwBD candidates, the fee is Rs. 250, which will be fully refunded upon attempting CBT-1.
For further details, candidates should refer to the official RRB notification once it is released.
