July 02, 2025 / 11:14 IST

Applications are now open for the Pradhan Mantri YASASVI Central Sector Scheme for the academic year 2025–26. The scheme is designed to provide financial assistance to students belonging to the Other Backward Classes (OBC), supporting their education in well-performing schools across India.

Eligible students can apply online through the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in. The last date to submit the application is 31 August 2025.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the PM YASASVI scheme, students must meet the following conditions:

  • Must belong to the OBC category.
  • Should be studying in Class 9 or Class 11.
  • The annual income of the student’s parents should not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh.

These criteria ensure that the scheme benefits deserving students from disadvantaged backgrounds studying in high-performing institutions.

Scholarship Amount

Under the scheme, selected students will receive financial support as follows:

  • Class 9 students: Rs 75,000
  • Class 11 students: Rs 1,25,000

The full amount will be credited directly to the student’s Aadhaar-linked bank account using the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, which helps ensure a transparent and timely process.

How to Apply

  1. Download the “NSP OTR” app from the Google Play Store.
  2. Use the app to complete Aadhaar-based face authentication. This is mandatory to generate a One Time Registration (OTR) number.
  3. Use the mobile number linked to Aadhaar to complete the process.
  4. For students who are minors and don’t have Aadhaar, parents' Aadhaar can be used.
  5. Once the OTR is generated, log in to scholarships.gov.in and complete the scholarship application.

This new OTR-based process has been made compulsory from the 2024–25 academic year onwards.

The PM YASASVI scheme is a targeted effort by the government to support students from the OBC category who face financial difficulties. By linking the scholarship to school performance and ensuring direct bank transfers, the scheme aims to reduce drop-out rates and promote continued education among socially and economically disadvantaged students.

Students are advised not to wait till the last moment, as delays in authentication or technical issues can affect timely submission.
