BPSC 70th Exam Verdict Today: Patna HC to decide on re-examination of BPSC 70th preliminary test

The Patna High Court on Friday delivered its long-awaited verdict on the BPSC 70th Preliminary Examination, bringing relief to the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) and clarity to over one million aspirants. The division bench of Acting Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar and Justice Partha Sarathi has dismissed all 14 writ petitions challenging the validity of the exam and has granted the Commission permission to proceed with the rest of the recruitment process.

The High Court had reserved its verdict on March 19, after completing final hearings over multiple sessions that spanned several months. A total of 14 petitions challenging the conduct and fairness of the examination were clubbed into a single case by the court.

BPSC 70th Exam Row: Timeline of Hearings and Reserved Judgment

  • January 31: Scheduled hearing postponed
  • February 4: Hearing conducted; arguments remained inconclusive
  • Pre-Holi Session: Bench resumed hearing but deferred final decision
  • March 18–19: Final arguments concluded; verdict reserved by the bench

The exam controversy began on December 13, 2024, when BPSC conducted the preliminary examination for civil service recruitment. Allegations of irregularities emerged, particularly from the Bapu Examination Centre in Patna, where candidates raised concerns over unfair practices. Protests broke out at the center, prompting the BPSC to cancel the exam for that specific venue and conduct a re-exam on January 4, 2025 exclusively for those candidates.

However, this partial re-examination did little to ease the unrest among the broader aspirant community. Many candidates questioned the fairness of conducting exams under differing conditions and demanded a uniform retest for all. Dissatisfied with BPSC’s handling of the situation, petitioners initially approached the Supreme Court, which on January 7 declined to entertain the case and advised them to move the Patna High Court instead.

Since then, the case has gone through multiple hearings. The High Court had issued a notice to BPSC on January 16, seeking a detailed response. A scheduled hearing on January 31 was adjourned, and subsequent sessions were held on February 4 and again before Holi, though the arguments remained inconclusive at that time.

Finally, after two full days of hearings on March 18 and 19, the bench reserved its order.
