The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections will witness an “unprecedented scenario”, actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay declared on Monday, marking his party’s third anniversary with a combative and confident political address.
In a letter to cadre, the actor-politician asserted that the sole reason for this new electoral dynamic is TVK’s arrival on the stage.
The anniversary event witnessed Vijay setting the stage on fire with a dance performance at the party meeting. Watch this video:

Vijay called upon supporters to move towards “political recognition through clarity, strategy and dedication,” predicting the party would “surely win its democratic target with the massive support of the people.” He framed TVK not as a conventional party but as a people’s movement, stating, “Even before evolving into a principal political force, the state knows that we stood with the people as a movement.”
The anniversary event, held at the party headquarters in Panaiyur near Chennai, comes at a critical juncture, with elections barely three months away. The party’s campaign machinery is reportedly in its final stages of candidate selection, amid intense speculation that Vijay himself may contest from a Chennai constituency. The Election Commission’s recent allotment of the ‘whistle’ symbol to TVK has provided an organisational boost.
However, the fledgling party faces significant headwinds. Its campaign was severely disrupted last year by a tragic stampede at a rally in Karur, which claimed 41 lives. Vijay was summoned twice by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the incident, derailing his planned state-wide tour.
Separately, his farewell film, ‘Jana Nayagan’, remains stalled, awaiting clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification, with the matter now in court.
Sources indicate Vijay used the anniversary address to signal a renewed campaign push, with plans to resume public meetings across the state. Politically, he has navigated a complex landscape, firmly ruling out any alliance with the BJP — which he terms his “ideological enemy” — despite overtures from the BJP-aligned AIADMK. He continues to describe the ruling DMK as his “political enemy.”
While sections within the Congress have made pro-TVN noises, the national party has reaffirmed its alliance with the DMK. With no major realignments confirmed, Tamil Nadu appears headed for a multi-cornered contest, involving the DMK-led front, the AIADMK-BJP combine, TVK and director Seeman’s Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), which is also contesting alone.
In his communique, Vijay employed vivid metaphors, describing TVK as an “immeasurable ocean that does not lose its equilibrium” and a “vast sky that none can move away.” He expressed supreme confidence that the party would become a “war victory drum to politically empower the common man.”
Drawing on his massive fanbase and parallels to icons like DMK founder CN Annadurai (who stormed to power in 1967) and AIADMK's MG Ramachandran (1977), Vijay bets on organisational momentum to emulate their success — no actor has claimed the chief minister's chair in Tamil Nadu since MGR and J Jayalalithaa.
