A stunt attempt ended in tragedy in Haryana’s Faridabad district on Tuesday when a Mahindra Thar plunged nearly 100 feet into a gorge, killing a 15-year-old boy and injuring two others.
Police said the SUV was being driven by 20 year old Vikas at the time of the incident. The deceased, a Class 9 student whose father, Pramod, works in a private company, died at the scene. Vikas and another minor, 16-year-old Hemant, sustained serious injuries and were hospitalised.
According to investigators, Vikas’s family had purchased the Thar about a month ago. On Tuesday afternoon, he reportedly asked the victim and another friend to join him for a drive. The three travelled to a hilly stretch located around one kilometre off the Sohna Ballabhgarh main road.
Police said the vehicle was parked close to the edge of a cliff where the trio began performing stunts. During the manoeuvres, Vikas allegedly lost control of the SUV, which then hurtled into the gorge below.
People passing by witnessed the crash and rushed to help. After significant effort, they managed to pull the occupants out of the ravine and shift them to a hospital. Doctors declared the 15-year-old brought dead, while the two injured were admitted to Al Falah Hospital in Dhauj for treatment.
The hospital administration alerted the police. Dhauj Station House Officer Darpan Kumar said a team reached the spot and began an investigation. The body was sent to Badshah Khan Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The damaged Thar was later retrieved from the cliff with the assistance of a crane. Police said further investigation is underway.
