A newly married woman in Ghaziabad allegedly bit off a portion of her husband’s tongue during a brutal physical altercation that erupted from a dispute over cooking, police have confirmed.

The grievous incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, has left the 26-year-old husband hospitalised and exposed simmering tensions within a marriage of less than a year.

The episode unfolded in the Sanjay Puri area under the jurisdiction of the Modinagar police station. According to Amit Saxena, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Modinagar), local residents alerted authorities to a violent clash between two groups involving men and women. Upon arrival, police intervened and took all involved parties to the station for questioning.

An investigation revealed the core of the violence was a domestic quarrel between Vipin, 26, and his wife, Isha. The couple, who were married on May 6, 2025, had become embroiled in an argument over cooking on Monday evening. What began as a verbal dispute rapidly escalated into a physical confrontation.

Vipin sustained severe injuries and was initially admitted to a hospital in Ghaziabad before being referred to a specialised medical facility in Meerut for further treatment.

The aftermath of the nocturnal violence spilled over into Tuesday morning, triggering a secondary confrontation. Upon learning of the incident, Isha’s family members reportedly went to her in-laws’ residence. This visit ignited a “fierce fight” between the two families, involving both men and women, which was the scene to which police were originally summoned.

While the immediate trigger was cited as a disagreement about cooking, police officials have not elaborated on the underlying causes of the marital discord. The case is under continued investigation as authorities piece together the sequence of events and the factors leading to the extreme act of violence.
