New homes for govt employees in Delhi: DDA to launch 3,656-flat Karamyogi Awas Yojana in Narela

Karamyogi Awas Yojana is meant exclusively for government and PSU employees, including those working in central and state government departments, public sector undertakings, hospitals, corporations, and other allied bodies.

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is set to launch a new housing initiative called the Karamyogi Awas Yojana, under which 3,656 newly built HIG, MIG and EWS flats will be offered in pockets 6, 9 and 13 of Narela’s Sectors A1 to A4. The registration process for these units is likely to begin in mid-December, officials said.

The scheme is meant exclusively for government and PSU employees, including those working in central and state government departments, public sector undertakings, hospitals, corporations, and other allied bodies. Retired personnel from these sectors will also be eligible to apply. DDA will offer a 25% rebate to eligible applicants, though the final pricing of the flats is still being finalised.

Officials said the main idea behind the scheme is to create integrated neighbourhoods for government and PSU staff, allowing them to live in well-planned clusters. “We had offered discounted flats to government employees earlier as well, but this is the first time specific pockets have been reserved only for them,” an official was quoted by TOI as saying.

The newly constructed units come with parking spaces, landscaped parks, and good road connectivity. The location provides easy access to the GT Karnal Road and the upcoming Urban Extension Road–II, which links NH-8 to NH-2, improving travel across Delhi and the NCR.

DDA currently has nearly 35,000 unsold flats, most of them located in Narela. About 80% of these are low-income group units. With a target to clear this inventory within two years, DDA has introduced multiple steps such as dynamic pricing, especially for EWS and LIG flats, and other measures to make the area more attractive for buyers.

“To boost Narela’s appeal, we have introduced new DTC bus routes, ensured faster construction of Urban Extension Road–II, allowed amalgamation of smaller flats, offered first-come-first-serve allotments, and provided several concessions,” another official said. Land has also been set aside for setting up a police station, a hospital, a DTC terminal and an education hub.

Demand is expected to increase once the Delhi Metro Phase-IV corridor becomes operational in the area. DDA is also developing facilities for Safal, Mother Dairy and a world-class multi-sports stadium. Following directions issued by the Lieutenant Governor in December last year, ex-servicemen have been deployed for round-the-clock security in the housing clusters.
