A quiet village in Mathura has been plunged into mourning after five members of a single family, including three young children, were discovered dead in their locked home on Tuesday morning.
The incident, which police are investigating as a likely case of murder-suicide, has sent shockwaves through the Khapparpur community under the Mahavan police station area.
According to reports, the grim discovery was made after the brother of the deceased man, also named Manish, grew concerned when no one emerged from the family’s residence. He alerted the police, who forced entry to find the bodies of 35-year-old farmer Manish, his wife Seema, their two daughters and their two-year-old son, Pankaj, all in one room.
Initial observations by officials at the scene suggest the family may have consumed a poisonous substance; glasses believed to have contained milk mixed with poison were reportedly found near the bodies.
Adding a harrowing dimension to the tragedy, a message was found written on a wall inside the home. It stated, according to police reports, “I, Manish and Seema are committing suicide of my own will. Police should not bother anyone.” A video reportedly made by them was also found in which they talked about suicide.
The family’s relatives expressed utter disbelief. Seema’s father, Vijendra, reportedly said he had met his daughter and son-in-law just a day before the tragedy and had noticed no signs of distress, adding that he could never have imagined such an event occurring.
Manish, who was married eight years ago, lived in the house with his wife and children and worked as a farmer. His two brothers reside separately in the same village.
Senior police officials have emphasised that all possibilities remain under scrutiny. While the scene and the note point towards a collective suicide, the precise sequence of events, including the remote possibility of foul play, is yet to be definitively established.
Officers confirmed that electronic records from the home were being reviewed and neighbours and relatives were being questioned to uncover any potential financial troubles, domestic conflicts, or other pressures.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, the results of which are awaited to confirm the exact cause and time of death. Forensic analysis of the evidence collected will be crucial in piecing together the final hours of the family, described by villagers as having been unusually reclusive in recent days.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation as they await the conclusive findings that will determine the precise nature of this tragic event.
