  • Jaipur Police arrested Audi hit-and-run driver after a massive search operation
  • Driver fled on foot for hours, hid in forest, and sought help from locals
  • Seven people who aided the accused during his escape have also been arrested

Jaipur Police have arrested the driver of the speeding Audi car allegedly involved in the hit-and-run incident on January 9. He had a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head during a search operation on the Ring Road.

Dinesh was behind the wheel of the Audi car that mowed down pedestrians at a speed of nearly 120 kmph. The accident took place on the night of January 9 near Kharbas Circle in the Mansarovar area of Rajasthan’s capital.

The speeding luxury car ran over people standing and walking along the roadside, leaving one person dead on the spot and 15 others seriously injured.

Accused walked 8 hours on foot to escape

Police investigations revealed that after abandoning the Audi at the accident spot, Ranwa chose to flee on foot to avoid being caught on CCTV cameras. Believing that using another vehicle would expose him, he walked continuously for nearly seven to eight hours through the night, AajTak reported.

To avoid surveillance, he stayed away from main roads and instead moved through narrow lanes, service roads, slip roads, and deserted areas. According to police officials, he walked through ring roads and isolated routes, hoping to escape unnoticed.

Hiding in the forest, and failed plans

After hours of walking, Ranwa was exhausted and reached a forest-like area on the outskirts of Jaipur. He hid among bushes and later approached locals grazing sheep and goats, asking for food.

He managed to get food and spent the night sleeping on the ground near them. The next morning, he told a truck driver that he was from Haryana and had been robbed in Jaipur, losing his phone and money.

Believing him, the driver gave him a lift to Karnal. From there, Ranwa stayed a night and then took multiple lifts to reach Haridwar. During this time, he constantly watched news updates and realised that the police had launched a massive search operation. His situation worsened when his money ran out and he found that all his bank accounts had been frozen by the police.

Massive police operation led to arrest

Ranwa attempted to return towards Rajasthan after he was left with no money. He reached Sonipat, where he stopped at a roadside dhaba and allegedly faced an attempt of robbery. He borrowed a mobile phone to contact acquaintances but received no meaningful help.

Mentally and physically drained, he eventually returned towards Jaipur and was seen wandering near the ring road, seeking help from old contacts linked to solar plant sites where he had previously worked. However, no one openly supported him.

DCP South Rajarshi Raj Verma said the police conducted an extensive search operation covering nearly 100 kilometres. More than 500 CCTV cameras installed on ring roads, highways, hotels, dhabas, truck parking areas, bus stands and slip roads were examined. Police also raided possible hideouts, including solar plant sites connected to the accused.

Combining technical surveillance and human intelligence, the police finally trapped Ranwa. He was arrested during a special search drive on the Jaipur ring road on Sunday. At the time of arrest, he appeared extremely tired and nervous.

Police confirmed that seven people who allegedly helped Ranwa during his escape have already been arrested. They are accused of assisting his escape, providing shelter, and hiding information from the police.

Investigators are now probing whether more individuals were involved in helping the accused evade arrest.
