Indore police headquarters has demoted a nationally recognised traffic policeman, commonly known as the “Dancing Cop”, following a departmental inquiry into allegations made by a woman on social media.

Ranjeet Singh, famed for using dance moves to direct traffic, has been stripped of his acting head constable rank and reverted to his original post of constable. The disciplinary action was confirmed by the office of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rajesh Dandotiya.

The decision concludes an investigation launched after a Mumbai-based woman, Radhika Singh, posted videos on Instagram levelling serious accusations against the constable. In her posts, she alleged that Ranjeet Singh had offered friendship, invited her to Indore and promised to arrange flight tickets and hotel accommodation. She stated she had posted the videos to object to this behaviour.

In a response issued after the initial video surfaced, Constable Singh offered a different account. He clarified that approximately 18 months ago, a woman claiming to be a fan had expressed a desire to see him perform live. He stated he had jokingly remarked that if she came to Indore, he would arrange her flight and hotel so she could watch him.

Following his statement, the complainant posted another video. In it, she made further critical remarks, questioning his status and dismissing his popularity. “Brother, you are a constable, who would want to see you, have I seen your face... You have understood one thing that there is an atmosphere of fear in the male society,” she said. She also challenged criticisms focused on her personal choices, stating, “Will smoking cigarettes spoil my character?”

The police department acted swiftly upon the initial allegations. According to official information, Ranjeet Singh was initially removed from field duty and attached to the police line pending investigation. A detailed probe was subsequently submitted to headquarters, leading to the demotion.

Additional DCP Dandotiya stated that acting head constable Ranjeet Singh, posted at the Reserve Centre in Indore, was compelled to relinquish his higher post based on the departmental inquiry’s findings. The order confirms he will now serve in his original capacity as constable.

Ranjeet Singh rose to national fame for incorporating elaborate ‘moonwalk’ and other dance steps into his traffic management routine in Indore, amassing millions of followers on social media. His unique method earned him awards and invitations to demonstrate his style across the country and even drew praise from a High Court judge.
