The Kukatpally Housing Board (KPHB) police have filed a suo motu case against the management of Lulu Mall and the organisers of a film promotion event, following a chaotic incident where actor Nidhhi Agerwal was mobbed by an unruly crowd. The case, registered on Thursday, centres on the alleged failure to obtain mandatory permissions and implement adequate crowd control.

The distressing scene unfolded on Wednesday during the launch of the song 'Sahana Sahana' from the upcoming film The Raja Saab. The event, which also featured Agerwal’s co-star Prabhas, drew a massive gathering of fans to the Hyderabad mall.

Viral social media footage from the event shows Agerwal struggling to navigate a dense, pressing crowd as she attempted to leave the venue. She was seen completely surrounded, with her personal space repeatedly breached and finding it difficult to reach her car despite the intervention of security personnel and a bouncer.

Confirming the legal action, KPHB Inspector S. Rajashekar Reddy was cited byThe Hindu as saying that the programme was conducted without prior authorisation. “A case is being registered against the mall management and the event organisers for holding the programme without permission,” he said. Police officials added that an investigation is ongoing to pinpoint specific lapses in security and crowd management arrangements.

The incident has ignited a significant debate online regarding celebrity safety and the responsibilities of event planners at public venues. Many social media users expressed alarm over the actor’s visibly harrowing experience, criticising both the organisers' preparedness and the conduct of sections of the crowd.

Adding a sharp critique of the mob's behaviour, singer and voice actor Chinmayi Sripada took to X. She described the scene forcefully, writing: “Pack of men behaving worse than hyenas… Put ‘likeminded’ men together in a mob, they will harass a woman like this. Why doesn’t some God take them all away and put them in a different planet?”
