A family of five was discovered unconscious in their locked Greater Noida home on Thursday morning in a case that has left investigators probing a possible murder-suicide. The parents were pronounced dead, while their three young children remain hospitalised in critical condition.
The grim discovery was made at the family’s residence in Sadullapur village after relatives, growing concerned, raised the alarm. Police forced entry to find all five family members unconscious. Prima facie, according to additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP), central Noida, Santosh Kumar, all showed signs of poisoning, HT reported.
The couple, aged 42 and 38, were rushed to a local hospital where they were declared dead. The mother was five months pregnant, police confirmed. Their children — a 10-year-old daughter, an 8-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter — were transferred to a specialised hospital in Delhi, where they remain in a critical state.
“The matter is under investigation, but at present it appears to be a case of suicide,” ADCP Kumar was quoted as saying by HT.
Investigators are currently working with a timeline partially provided by the eldest child. Police sources indicate that the 10-year-old daughter informed them the family’s last meal was dinner on Wednesday night. The tragedy came to light the following morning at approximately 8.30 am, when the girl woke and alerted her grandfather that her parents were unresponsive.
While a clear motive remains elusive, officials have so far found no immediate evidence of acute financial distress or any other direct trigger that might explain the events. The central focus of the probe is now on forensic analysis.
Investigators are awaiting post-mortem reports and forensic results from food samples to conclusively identify the poisonous substance, suspected to have been ingested during the family’s final meal.
