An auto-rickshaw ride through the streets of Delhi turned into a disturbing ordeal for a foreign tourist this week after the driver allegedly offered to arrange paid sexual services for him, sparking widespread condemnation and urgent calls for police action.

A video posted on Instagram by a user identified as @daviddxiao has laid bare the uncomfortable exchange. The footage captures the driver persistently suggesting that "rooms are available" and, in a brazen proposal, claiming he could arrange "good girls" aged between 18 and 20 years.

Despite the passenger's clear and repeated refusals, the driver continued to push the proposition, leaving the traveller visibly uneasy. In subsequent comments, the tourist shared that the encounter left him feeling deeply uncomfortable, pressured and unsafe throughout the remainder of the journey.

The video has ignited a firestorm of criticism on social media, with users expressing outrage not only at the driver’s conduct but also at the shadow it casts on the capital's reputation. Many tagged the official handle of Delhi Police, demanding immediate and stringent legal action.

Several users highlighted the stark contrast between the incident and the traditional Indian ethos of "Atithi Devo Bhava" (Guest is God). "Sorry for your experience, we apologise; this was a shameful incident that is hurting all of us Indians," read a comment directed at the tourist.

The demands for action went beyond the individual driver. One user urged the authorities to "look into this urgently," stating, "Kindly trace his whereabouts and rescue the women who may be trapped in this racket. This needs immediate action."

Another echoed this sentiment, calling for a complete shutdown of such networks. "Exploiting vulnerable girls for money is inhuman. Strict action is needed... A request to concerned authorities to set an example so as to avoid such instances in the future."

Some comments reflected a broader frustration with the city's environment for visitors. "Even people from other cities are scared to get scammed in Delhi. It's full of scammers," one user remarked, while others reacted with anger, with one suggesting the driver deserved a prison term with a "Danda parade."

In the wake of the video's circulation, social media users have been quick to advise travellers to exercise caution and opt for more regulated modes of transport. Many recommended using the Delhi Metro or app-based cab services like Uber and Ola, which offer features such as ride tracking and verified driver details, ensuring a safer transit experience across the city.
