In a suspected case of murder-suicide, the bodies of two sisters were discovered inside their residence in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar on Thursday evening, with their mother found unconscious at the scene and rushed to hospital.

Police were alerted around 6.10 pm after relatives, concerned by the lack of response despite repeated knocking, contacted authorities. According to reports, a team from Malviya Nagar police station arrived promptly to find the main door locked from the inside. Forcing entry, the officers uncovered the grim scene: the sisters, aged 33 and 28, lay dead in separate rooms of the house.

One sister was found on a bed with a pillow placed over her face, while the other bore a ligature mark around her neck suggestive of strangulation, an investigator was cited by HT as saying on condition of anonymity. Their mother, discovered unconscious in another room, was immediately transported to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where she remains under treatment.

Preliminary investigations reportedly point to the mother having killed her daughters one by one before attempting to end her own life, though unsuccessfully, officers said. Neighbours had also raised the alarm earlier, contributing to the swift police response.

Crime and forensic teams from the scene have since conducted a thorough inspection, gathering evidence to aid the probe. A senior police officer, who requested anonymity, was cited by HT as stating that the matter is under active investigation, with further details expected once the mother regains consciousness and forensic reports are analysed.
