A team from Andhra Pradesh Police on Monday arrested IPS officer Sunil Nayak in Bihar in connection with the alleged custodial torture of current Deputy Speaker of Andhra Pradesh Assembly, K Raghurama Krishna Raju, in 2021 when YSRCP was in power.

He is being brought on a transit warrant to Guntur, where a case was registered against him and others.

The official residence of Sunil Kumar Nayak, Inspector General (IG) of Bihar Fire Services, in Patna, was raided for several hours on Monday morning.

The case is linked to an incident in 2021 in Narsapuram of Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh. At that time, former Member of Parliament K Raghu Rama Krishna Raju was arrested.

During the arrest, Nayak was serving in the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Andhra Pradesh. Allegations later surfaced that the arrest was carried out under Nayak’s instructions and that the MP was physically assaulted while in custody.

Following the incident, Raju filed a complaint accusing then CID Deputy Inspector General M Sunil Nayak of custodial torture. After receiving the complaint, Andhra Pradesh Police repeatedly asked Nayak to appear and record his statement. However, officials said he did not respond to the summons.

According to reports, a case was registered against Nayak after a court order. His bail was later cancelled, prompting the Andhra Pradesh Police team to travel to Patna to arrest him. Officials said he is likely to be produced before a local court and may be taken to Andhra Pradesh on transit remand for further investigation.

Heavy security arrangements were made around his residence during the raid. Senior officers, including the Central SP and Secretariat SDPO-2, along with local police forces, were deployed in the area.

Officials are also collecting documents as part of the ongoing investigation.
