Two sisters from Bhopal have been arrested on serious charges of rape, forced religious conversion, and running a sex racket by luring young women with fake job offers.
The accused sisters, identified as Amreen and Afreen, were arrested along with their associate Chandan Yadav. The arrests were made after two women, aged 21 and 32, filed complaints at the Bagh Sewania Police Station on Sunday night. Three other accused, Bilal, Chanu, and Yasir, are currently absconding, and police are searching for them, according to an NDTV report.
According to the report, the sisters had earlier lived in a small slum house in Abbas Nagar. However, they recently shifted to a luxurious villa in Sagar Royal Villas. According to the India Today, their neighbours claimed that while burqa-clad women were often seen visiting their house, Afreen and Amreen themselves wore only jeans.
Investigators believe that the expensive property may have been purchased using money earned through illegal activities involving the exploitation of young women.
The case came to light after both complainants separately approached the police with similar allegations. Their statements pointed towards a planned operation that allegedly targeted girls from poor families by promising them jobs and a better life.
How were young women trapped?
According to the police, the sisters allegedly targeted girls from economically weaker backgrounds. They offered them domestic work with a monthly salary of Rs 10,000, along with free food and accommodation. The women were also promised a “high-profile lifestyle.”
However, what began as job offers soon turned into a nightmare, the victims told police. According to the FIR, the women were gradually introduced to parties, pubs, and lounges. There, they were allegedly pressured to meet and spend time with wealthy men.
The complainants claimed they were forced to drink alcohol and consume drugs, including MD. In some cases, they said they were drugged without their knowledge and then raped.
One of the victims, a beautician from Mungeli district in Chhattisgarh, said she was taken to Ahmedabad in December 2025 on the pretext of work. She alleged that Yasir, who is said to be a relative of Amreen, raped her there. She also accused Bilal and Chanu of sexually assaulting her at different times.
The second complainant, a resident of Bhopal who worked as a maid at Amreen’s house, said she was raped by Chandan Yadav at his sister’s residence in Narayan Nagar. She claimed she was left alone there and later threatened with death and defamation if she told anyone.
Was there forced religious conversion?
One of the most serious accusations in the case is that of forced religious conversion.
According to the FIR, Chandan Yadav allegedly told one of the victims that he had converted to Islam and asked her to do the same. He allegedly told her that if she converted, he would arrange her marriage into a good family. The victim told police that she felt pressured and converted out of fear.
She also claimed that after her conversion, she was forced to wear a burqa, offer prayers and forced to marry Muslim youths. Police are now investigating these claims under laws related to forced conversion and sexual assault.
Officials said the matter is being treated seriously and all aspects of the complaint are being examined carefully.
The bigger network behind the case
During the arrests, police seized the mobile phones of Amreen, Afreen, and Chandan Yadav. Officials said they found several suspicious WhatsApp groups on Amreen’s phone. These groups allegedly contained photographs of multiple young women.
Investigators suspect that this may not be an isolated case. The victims have claimed that they were taken to Gujarat and Mumbai and introduced to unknown people for unclear reasons. Police believe there could be a larger interstate network involved.
The women also told police that whenever they tried to leave the job, they were threatened. They alleged that they were photographed in compromising situations and later blackmailed to stay silent.
NDTV reported that Additional DCP Gautam Solanki has confirmed that a case has been registered and the accused are being questioned. Police are now examining bank transactions, travel records, and digital communications of the accused to find out the full extent of the operation.
