Chief of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay, will appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Delhi on Monday in connection with the Karur stampede case. The party has sought adequate security arrangements for its founder-leader during his visit to the national capital.
TVK sources said Vijay is complying with the summons issued by the central probe agency and will present himself for questioning at the CBI headquarters. He left Chennai at 7 am on Monday aboard a chartered flight and would reach Delhi in time for the questioning. The party has also requested Delhi Police to ensure full security during his appearance.
On January 6, officials confirmed that the CBI had issued a notice asking Vijay to appear for questioning on January 12 as part of its probe into the stampede. The agency has already questioned several TVK office-bearers in connection with the case.
The CBI took over the investigation from a Special Investigation Team (SIT) following a Supreme Court of India order. The agency has been collecting evidence related to the stampede that occurred during a political meeting addressed by Vijay on September 27, 2025, in Karur, which left 41 people dead and over 60 injured.
