The Budget Session of Parliament will be held from January 28 to April 2, 2026, in two phases, with the Union Budget for the 2025–26 financial year slated for presentation on February 1, according to a proposal approved by the government.
The first phase of the session will run from January 28 to February 13, followed by a recess. Parliament will reconvene for the second phase on March 9 and sit until April 2.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the schedule was approved by the President on the recommendation of the government. “The Session will commence on 28 January 2026 and continue till 2 April 2026,” he said in a post on X.

The Economic Survey, which outlines the state of the economy and sets the analytical backdrop for the Budget, will be tabled on January 29 by Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran, as per the proposal cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs.
The Union Budget will be presented on February 1, marking a rare Sunday sitting of Parliament. While February 1 has been the fixed Budget date since 2017, irrespective of the day of the week, Sunday sittings of Parliament remain uncommon and have typically been limited to exceptional circumstances, such as in 2012 and 2020.
Budget 2026 will be the ninth consecutive Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, continuing the government’s practice of early Budget presentations introduced to align the fiscal calendar with the start of the financial year.
The dates were cleared after the President, Droupadi Murmu, approved the summoning of both Houses of Parliament of India for the session.
