India Yamaha Motor has unveiled its first electric scooters for the Indian market -- the Aerox-E and the EC-06 -- marking the company's entry into the electric two-wheeler segment. The move aligns with Yamaha's long-term global strategy for sustainable mobility and its plan to expand beyond the internal combustion engine (ICE) portfolio.
The Aerox-E is positioned as a high-performance electric scooter in Yamaha's premium 'Maxi Sports' category, while the EC-06 has been developed as a city-focussed commuter model targeting urban and intercity riders.
The Aerox-E is powered by a 9.4kW (peak) motor generating 48Nm of torque and uses dual detachable 3kWh batteries with high energy-density cells. Yamaha claims a certified range of 106km. The scooter offers three riding modes -- Eco, Standard and Power -- along with a Boost function for quick acceleration. It also gets a reverse mode for added convenience.
The Aerox-E features twin LED Class D headlights, LED flashers, a 3D-effect LED taillight and a colour TFT display with turn-by-turn navigation. The scooter supports Y-Connect app integration, providing maintenance reminders and last parked location updates. For safety, it is equipped with front and rear disc brakes and single-channel ABS.
Built on the design theme of 'Heart-Shaking Speedster', the Aerox-E carries the same styling DNA as Yamaha's petrol-powered Aerox 155 but adds EV-specific design cues and ergonomics tuned for electric performance.
The EC-06 has been developed for daily commuters seeking practicality and efficiency. It is powered by a 4.5kW motor delivering a peak output of 6.7kW, paired with a fixed 4kWh battery. The EC-06 offers a certified range of 160km and supports standard home charging, taking around nine hours for a full charge.
The scooter offers three riding modes and a reverse assist feature. It is equipped with LED lighting, a coloured LCD instrument cluster, and front and rear disc brakes. The EC-06 also includes a built-in telematics unit with SIM connectivity for real-time data access. Under-seat storage is rated at 24.5 litres.
The electric scooter has been developed in India with a global outlook.
With these two EVs, Yamaha joins a growing list of two-wheeler manufacturers entering India's electric mobility space, competing with models from TVS, Bajaj, Hero, Honda, Ather and Ola.
Yamaha will announce the price of the Aerox-E and the EC-06 at a later date.
