The Hyundai Creta might cross annual sales of 2,00,000 units in the calendar year (CY) 2025, considering the pace it is going at right now. However, there is one model that is keeping the popular SUV away from the numero uno position on the sales chart, and it is none other than the Maruti Suzuki WagonR.

The WagonR is the largest-selling car in India in CY25 (January-May) at 88,494 units. However, it is just 3,750 units ahead of the Creta, which has recorded sales of 84,744 units.

Next in line is the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, which has kept the sedan flag high with sales of 80,617 units during the first five months of CY25. It is followed by the popular Maruti Suzuki Swift at 79,823 units and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza at 79,222 units.

The WagonR is among the oldest warhorses of Maruti. Having entered the market in 1999, it has sold over 32,00,000 units. The hatchback is priced between Rs 5,78,500 and Rs 7,61,500 (ex-showroom).

The car offers gasoline as well as CNG powertrains. There are two petrol motor options -- 1.0-litre K-Series Dual-Jet Dual-VVT (67 PS and 89 Nm) and 1.2-litre K-Series Dual-Jet Dual-VVT (90 PS and 113 Nm). Among the transmission options are 5-speed MT and 5-speed AMT. There is also a 1.0-litre CNG option (57 PS and 82 Nm), which can be had with a 5-speed MT.

The Creta is Hyundai's volume driver in the Indian market. Launched in 2015, the SUV has recorded sales of over 12,52,000 units till now.

Known for its multiple powertrain choices, the Creta can be had with an internal combustion engine (ICE) as well as in a hybrid avatar.

The ICE version of the Creta has three engine options -- 1.5-litre MPi naturally-aspirated petrol (115 PS and 144 Nm), 1.5-litre Kappa Turbo GDi petrol (160 PS and 253 Nm) and 1.5-litre U2 CRDi diesel (116 PS and 250 Nm). The transmission options include 6-speed manual, IVT automatic, 7-speed DCT automatic and 6-speed torque converter automatic.

Hyundai offers a couple of battery options -- 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh -- with the Creta Electric. The smaller battery variants have a claimed range of 390 km, while those with the bigger battery are good for 473 km on a single full charge.

The Creta ICE is priced between Rs 11.11 lakh and Rs 20.50 lakh. You can have the Creta Electric in the price range of Rs 17.99 lakh to Rs 24.38 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.
