Maruti Suzuki India will launch its first battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e Vitara, in India on December 2, 2025. The electric SUV is already being exported to Europe, with the carmaker planning to ship it to more than 100 markets globally.
The company showcased the model earlier this year at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo. Based on the ground-up HEARTECT-e platform, the e Vitara will be sold through Nexa dealerships in a phased rollout.
Maruti has not disclosed the e Vitara prices yet. We expect the electric SUV to start at around Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom).
Positioned in the mid-size e-SUV segment, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will rival the likes of the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv.ev, MG ZS EV and VinFast VF6.
The e Vitara uses lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries, available in 49kWh and 61kWh capacities. The company claims the 61kWh version delivers more than 500km on the MIDC cycle, based on internal testing.
The electric SUV features aerodynamic 18-inch alloy wheels, next-generation three-point matrix LED DRLs, LED projector headlamps and a polyhedral design theme. It will be available in 10 colour options, including four dual-tone choices.
The cabin adopts a 'digital cockpit' layout with a twin-deck floating console. It includes a 10.1-inch infotainment display, a 10.25-inch multi-information display, wireless connectivity, soft-touch materials and ambient lighting. Ventilated front seats and a 10-way power-adjustable driver seat are offered, along with a 40:20:40 split second row with sliding and reclining functions. The audio system is tuned by Infinity by Harman.
The e Vitara measures 4,275mm in length, 1,800mm in width and 1,640mm in height, with a 2,700mm wheelbase. Built on the HEARTECT-e platform, it uses a flat floor layout and offers a 5.2m turning radius. The structure incorporates high-tensile steel and a battery-protection architecture.
The permanent-magnet synchronous motor delivers 105.8kW with the 49kWh battery and 128kW with the 61kWh pack. Torque output is 192.5Nm for both. Drive modes include Eco, Normal, Sports and a dedicated snow mode. The EV also supports regenerative braking for one-pedal operation.
Standard safety equipment includes seven airbags, Level 2 ADAS, electronic parking brake, all-disc brakes, tyre-pressure monitoring and e-Call emergency assistance. The platform uses over 50% high-tensile steel and an energy-absorbing battery mounting structure.
The next-gen Suzuki Connect system offers over 60 connected-car functions, including vehicle status updates, charging controls and remote operations via an app.
The company's 'e for me' ecosystem will offer home-charger installation support and plug-and-play DC fast chargers at dealerships. The app enables charger discovery, route planning, payments and scheduling. Maruti is preparing 1,500 EV-enabled workshops across 1,000 cities for after-sales support.
