The country's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India, has exported around 7,000 units of the e Vitara electric SUV so far. The entire shipment has been sent to Europe, with the United Kingdom emerging as the largest export market.
The e Vitara is the maiden battery electric vehicle (BEV) from Suzuki Motor Corporation. It is being exclusively manufactured at Maruti Suzuki's Hansalpur plant in Gujarat.
Exports of the e Vitara commenced in August. As of now, it is being exported to 12 European countries -- the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, France, Denmark, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, Iceland, Austria, and Belgium.
During the Q2 FY26 earnings conference call, a Maruti Suzuki spokesperson said: "We have completed 7,000 (e Vitara exports) already and so far, it is going strong."
On August 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commemorated the start of production of the e Vitara at Hansalpur. Maruti Suzuki is targeting e Vitara exports to more than 100 countries.
The UK-spec e Vitara is available with two battery options -- 49kWh and 61kWh. The 49kWh version is offered only with front-wheel drive, while the larger 61kWh unit can be had in both 2WD and Suzuki's ALLGRIP-e four-wheel-drive configuration. The 49kWh 2WD version is powered by a single electric motor developing 106kW and 193Nm of torque. The 61kWh 2WD variant delivers 128kW and 193Nm, while the top-end 61kWh ALLGRIP-e 4WD model uses dual motors for a combined output of 135kW and up to 307Nm of torque.
Dimensionally, the e Vitara measures 4,275mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,635mm in height, with a 2,700mm wheelbase. For the India-spec model, the maximum claimed range is over 500km on a single charge.
The e Vitara features a premium and technology-focused cabin built around a twin-deck floating console and a digital cockpit layout. It gets a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with a 10.25-inch multi-information display, offering wireless connectivity and an 'Infinity by Harman' audio system. The electric SUV offers ventilated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, and rear seats that recline, slide and fold in a 40:20:40 split configuration. The interior is finished with soft-touch dual-tone materials, multi-colour ambient lighting and a fixed-glass sunroof.
In terms of safety and connected technology, the e Vitara includes seven airbags (including a driver knee airbag), Level-2 ADAS, an advanced structural design with energy-absorbing battery mounting, and a high-tensile steel body. It also features all-disc brakes, an electronic parking brake and Suzuki Connect with over 60 connectivity features.
Maruti Suzuki will launch the e Vitara in India in December. The carmaker postponed the electric SUV's India launch after production was affected by a shortage of rare earth magnets.
