Leading SUV maker Mahindra & Mahindra has registered 1.76 lakh bookings for its newly-launched Thar ROXX within 60 minutes of opening the window, and deliveries will commence from Dussehra, which is on October 12.
This is being talked about as the highest first-day booking for any of Mahindra Group's models.
Calling the response 'unprecedented', M&M said it will inform customers about the tentative delivery schedules over next three weeks in a phased manner. Bookings for Thar ROXX remain open at all dealerships and Mahindra's website, the SUV maker informed.
During September, M&M has posted a 24% YoY growth in SUV sales at over 51,000 units. Exports too grew by 25% YoY in September at 3,027 units.
The 5-door version of Thar SUV, ROXX has a starting price of Rs 12.99 lakh and is available in both petrol and diesel versions.

The Thar Roxx will be equipped with either a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine that generates 160 bhp of maximum power and 330 Nm of torque, or a 2.0-litre mHawk diesel engine that puts out 150 bhp and 330 Nm. Both engines are mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
According to Rajesh Jejurikar, ED and CEO for auto and farm business, Thar ROXX has not been designed as a niche product but as a mainstream SUV, keeping in mind the needs and requirements of the buyers in the segment. “Even with the three-door version, in its current form, has become a large volume player. We didn’t want to stop at that and we think that we can make this brand bigger,” Jejurikar has said in the past.
Mahindra and Mahindra has priced the 4x4 variants of the new Thar ROXX in the range of Rs 18.79 lakh up to Rs 22.49 lakh (ex-showroom), on an introductory basis.
