India's best-selling car of October? The same one that beat Maruti, Hyundai, Mahindra models in September

This model is Tata's volume driver in the domestic PV market.

India's passenger vehicle (PV) market has seen intense competition through the festive season, with different cars from the leading automakers -- Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors and Hyundai Motor India -- battling for the top spot. Yet, for the second month in a row, a compact SUV has outpaced every other model in the country, maintaining its position as India's best-selling car across September 2025 and October 2025.

That model is the Tata Nexon, which recorded 22,573 units in September and 22,083 units in October, making it the highest-selling PV in India for two consecutive months.

A long-time volume driver for Tata, the Nexon has been among the country's most consistent performers in the PV market. It was India's highest-selling SUV for three years in a row -- FY22 (1.24 lakh units), FY23 (1.72 lakh units) and FY24 (1.71 lakh units). Although volumes eased slightly to 1.63 lakh units in FY25, the model continues to dominate. Between April and September 2025 alone, it sold nearly 90,000 units, before festive momentum added another boost.

Tata Nexon

The recent Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate rationalisation and festive discounts have further lifted demand. The Nexon prices dropped by up to Rs 1.55 lakh under the new tax structure, with Tata extending September benefits through October. Starting at Rs 7.32 lakh (ex-showroom), the SUV now appeals to buyers across multiple price brackets.

Its wide powertrain range remains a key strength. The Nexon is offered with 1.2-litre turbo-petrol, 1.5-litre diesel and bi-fuel (petrol-CNG) options featuring Tata's twin-cylinder technology that preserves boot space. The Nexon.ev adds an electric alternative, available with 30kWh and 45kWh battery packs delivering real-world ranges of about 210-230km and 350-375km, respectively.

Safety credentials continue to underpin the model's appeal. Both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) versions have secured a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating, reinforcing Tata's safety-first positioning. Standard equipment includes LED headlamps, ventilated seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, six airbags, ESP and a 360-degree camera.

Competing in the crowded compact SUV space against the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Sonet and Skoda Kylaq, the Tata Nexon has leveraged its revised pricing, safety ratings and variety of fuel options to stay ahead of its peers for the second consecutive month.
