Citroen Aircross SUV gets 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating

The SUV is equipped with six airbags and electronic stability control, among other safety features.

The Citroen Aircross SUV has received a 5-star safety rating for adult occupant protection (AOP) and a 4-star rating for child occupant protection (COP) under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP).

The crash test was conducted on the C3 Aircross 5-seater, 1.2-litre turbo petrol automatic variant. The SUV scored 27.05 points out of 32 in AOP and 40 points out of 49 in COP. This translates into five stars for adult protection and four stars for child safety.

In the detailed assessment, the Aircross recorded 11.05 out of 16 in the frontal offset test and a full 16 out of 16 in the side impact test. For child safety, the SUV secured the maximum 24 out of 24 in dynamic testing with child restraint systems, along with 12 out of 12 in CRS installation.

Bharat NCAP has confirmed that the ratings apply across multiple variants of the C3 Aircross 5-seater, including the 1.2-petrol YOU, 1.2-petrol PLUS, 1.2-petrol Turbo MT, and Turbo AT trims. All these versions come with essential safety features fitted as standard.

The SUV is equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), ISOFIX child seat mounts, seatbelt reminders for all rows, hill-hold assist, and pedestrian protection compliance. The body shell uses high-strength, advanced high-strength, and ultra-high-strength steel to manage impact forces and minimise cabin intrusion.

The Bharat NCAP result comes at a time when safety ratings have become an important factor for Indian buyers. In the mid-size SUV segment, the Aircross competes with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun. The 5-star adult rating places the Aircross among the highest-rated models in its class.

The Aircross has two petrol engine options. The 1.2-litre Puretech turbo unit produces 110hp and 205Nm torque, while the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine delivers 82hp. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, and a 6-speed automatic. The SUV is offered in both 5-seater and 5+2 seating layouts.

The Bharat NCAP test result was awarded specifically to the 5-seater version of the Citroen Aircross SUV.
