Geo News hacked, anti-military messages briefly broadcast in Pakistan

The television channel of Geo News, one of Pakistan’s leading mainstream broadcasters, was reportedly hacked on Sunday, with anti-military messages briefly appearing on screen.

During the breach, messages displayed read, “Your Army is Your Enemy." Another message stated, “Tumhari Fauj Kr Makhsoos Halkey Ne Poorie Tabahie Se Dochaar Kr Diya Hai — Is Ke Khilaaaf Kharey Ho Jao — Is Ke Saamney Kharey Ho Jaao (Your army and your designated constituency have brought complete destruction — Rise against it — Stand up to it)."

The channel went off air for a few minutes following the incident, though the Geo News website continues to operate normally. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the breach.

Neither Geo News management nor the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has released an official response.

Viewers in several areas reported that the channel suddenly disappeared from satellite screens, displaying a notice that the service was unavailable. Shortly after, the broadcast feed showed an image with Urdu text against a backdrop of an explosion and the Pakistani flag, indicating a likely security breach in the transmission.
