  • The win brings hope for buying a home and supporting his family

A single ticket turned into a life-altering moment for Indian-origin expatriate Murugananth Govinthan, who won 5 million dirhams (over Rs 12 crore) in a UAE lottery draw held on February 14. The 42-year-old, who bought the ticket with a close friend, will share the prize money, making the win even more meaningful.

The winning entry, draw number 260214, matched all six numbers in the ‘Days’ category. His chosen numbers were 11, 19, 28, 15, 31, and 7. It was his very first attempt at the lottery after registering with The UAE Lottery, operated by Game LLC.

According to a statement cited by Gulf News, “With that single ticket, they claimed the Dh5 million second prize, splitting the life-changing winnings. The increased prize, up from Dh1 million, has sparked fresh excitement and renewed hope among players across the Emirates.”

Govinthan, who lives in the UAE with his family in rented accommodation, spoke emotionally about what the win means after years of challenges.

“I couldn’t stop thinking about everything I’ve been through over the past three years, the challenges, my marriage, my children’s education, and all the responsibilities on my shoulders. That’s why I came to the UAE. I didn’t expect it to happen so soon. I feel very happy,” he said.

For him, the prize is more than just financial relief -- it brings him closer to a long-cherished goal. “We are still living in a rented house and have always wanted to build our own home. My children want that too. The situation didn’t allow it before, but now I feel I’m on the way to resolving these struggles. I feel happy and consider this a great blessing from God.”

What began as a first-time purchase has now become a turning point, offering stability and the promise of fulfilling dreams long put on hold.
