Nepal’s new interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Sunday formally assumed office at Singha Durbar, days after being appointed to lead the country following the resignation of KP Sharma Oli.
“Our government has taken charge to serve the people, not to cling to power,” Karki said after taking charge, vowing to rebuild the nation and restore public trust.
"Those involved in the incident of vandalism will be investigated. My team and I are not here to taste the power. We won't stay for more than 6 months. We will hand over the responsibility to the new parliament. We won’t succeed without your support," the Prime Minister said.
On the way forward for the country, which she said is facing a deep financial crisis, Karki remarked, “All stakeholders must come together to rebuild Nepal. We will not give up. We will work to restore our nation.”

The former Chief Justice announced that those killed during the Gen Z movement will be officially recognised as martyrs, with compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to be provided to their families.
Nepal President Ramchandra Paudel on Saturday urged all parties to cooperate in conducting fresh elections for the House of Representatives, scheduled for March 5.
Karki was sworn in on Friday by President Ramchandra Paudel after weeks of violent protests driven by the Gen Z movement, which demanded change and accountability. She also pledged to tackle corruption, a key issue that fuelled the demonstrations.
