At least four people have reportedly been injured in a shooting incident at the Florida State University campus in Tallahassee, US, on Thursday.

Gunshots were reported at the student union building shortly after noon. About half an hour later, the university issued a shelter-in-place alert and canceled all classes and athletic events for the rest of the day.

"This is a Emergency Message for Florida State University Tallahassee Campus. Continue to shelter in place. Police have responded to an active shooter call at the Student Union. Stay alert for more information," the university said in a post on X.

The Tallahassee Democrat reported that a police spokesperson said there was one person in custody and that there were multiple injuries, according to New York Times (NYT).

Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare is “actively receiving and caring for patients” from the shooting, a spokesperson said in a statement to CNN. “At this time, details are still unfolding, and we do not yet have specific information to share.”

Officers began evacuating academic buildings soon after the shelter-in-place alert went out. Campus officials told students to stay in place until officers reached them.

The F.B.I. in Jacksonville said in a statement on social media that it was assisting with the response, NYT reported.
