Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz announced on Saturday that his country carried out what he described as a preventive strike against Iran, escalating tensions in the region.
Shortly afterward, the Israel Defense Forces said on X that air-raid sirens were activated across the country. Emergency alerts were also pushed directly to mobile phones, instructing residents to remain close to designated protected spaces.
The military characterised the step as a precautionary measure amid concerns over the possible launch of missiles toward Israel. In its statement, the IDF urged civilians to stay near shelters and closely follow official safety directives.
Following a situational assessment, the IDF said that beginning at 08:00 on Saturday, updated Home Front Command guidelines would take immediate effect. All regions of the country have been moved from "Full Activity" to "Essential Activity" status.
Under the revised instructions, educational institutions, public gatherings, and non-essential workplaces are suspended. Only critical and essential services will be allowed to operate.
Authorities emphasized that the public must adhere strictly to instructions disseminated through official Home Front Command platforms. Detailed updates will be available on the National Emergency Portal and through the Home Front Command mobile app, the military added.
