Indian govt sources slam Pakistan's victim card at UNGA, call Shehbaz's claims 'unverified and propaganda'

In a strong diplomatic reply, Indian government sources have publicly rejected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s claims at the 80th UN General Assembly. Islamabad’s narrative of “aggression from the eastern front” was dismissed as entirely baseless, and officials accused Pakistan of attempting to dodge responsibility for cross-border terrorism through theatrics, reported CNN-News18.

Sharif used his UN address to allege a May attack by India, accusing New Delhi of rejecting Pakistan’s offer for an “independent probe” into the Pahalgam terror tragedy. He also claimed that the Pakistani Air Force had destroyed seven Indian fighter jets under Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Babar Sidhu’s leadership. Indian sources, quoted via CNN-News18, strongly rejected both assertions.

They said that India has already investigated the Pahalgam incident and other border events independently, with results confirming cross-border infiltration and ceasefire violations by terror networks based in Pakistan. They urged the world to note that Pakistani terrorists often use civilian zones as safe cover, putting their own people at risk while launching attacks.

On the claim of downed Indian jets, India’s response was sharp: it called the statement “unverified and propaganda aimed at inflating Pakistan’s military narrative.” Officials reaffirmed that the Indian Air Force remains fully operational and dismissing Islamabad’s boast as empty bravado.

The government sources accused Pakistan of repeated attempts to portray itself as an innocent victim while obscuring its deep involvement in cross-border terrorism. They emphasised that India’s commitment is to dialogue and peaceful resolution, but only after Islamabad takes verifiable steps to dismantle its terror infrastructure.

India, they said, will continue to push the global community to recognise the real threat emanating from Pakistan, rather than allowing Islamabad to mask aggression under victimhood.
