Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday said Ukraine was showing little urgency in ending the conflict through peaceful means, warning that Moscow would pursue its objectives by military force if diplomatic efforts failed.
“If the Kyiv authorities do not want to resolve the matter peacefully, we will accomplish all the tasks before us in the course of the special military operation by military means," Putin was quoted as saying by the TASS News Agency.
Putin added that the leadership of what he referred to as the “Kyiv regime” remained reluctant to seek a peaceful settlement. “We see that even today, unfortunately, the leaders of the Kyiv regime are in no hurry to resolve this conflict peacefully. I spoke about this a year ago in a speech at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," he said.
The remarks came amid intensified Russian military strikes on Ukraine and as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was travelling to Florida ahead of a scheduled meeting with US President Donald Trump on Sunday.
Zelenskyy has said that the continued Russian attacks demonstrate Moscow’s lack of intent to end the invasion it launched in February 2022, while reiterating that Ukraine remains committed to seeking peace.
The conflict, now in its third year, has seen repeated diplomatic efforts falter amid ongoing fighting and heightened international involvement.
