Tesla and SpaceX chief executive Elon Musk ignited widespread debate online on Monday after posting a brief comment about Jesus Christ on his social media platform, X.
The exchange began when a user wrote, “Someone needs to evangelize Elon Musk. Who will lead him to Christ?”. The post was shared on February 28.
Musk replied soon after, stating: “I agree with the teachings of Jesus.”
The concise response prompted mixed reactions across the platform. Some users praised the comment, interpreting it as a sign that Musk was becoming more forthcoming about matters of faith. Others speculated whether the post signalled a broader announcement or personal disclosure.
One user commented, “Something really, really bad is about to come out about him,” implying the message might be linked to a potential controversy. Another countered that when someone expresses appreciation for the teachings of Jesus on compassion and truth, sceptics often assume it is an attempt to deflect from scandal.
Several contributors urged Musk to deepen his spiritual commitment. One wrote, “It’s a good start, Elon. God is pulling on your heart and placed your ambitions, talent and dreams inside of you for a bigger purpose.”
Another stressed that agreement with Jesus’ teachings was only an initial step, arguing that genuine faith required total belief and surrender.
“It is not enough to simply agree with the teachings of Jesus, but you must SURRENDER yourself to Him and BELIEVE on Him completely to be SAVED. I really hope and pray you get there, sincerely,” the comment read.
Musk has discussed religion more openly in recent years. In 2022, he wrote on X that Jesus taught love, kindness and forgiveness, adding that he once believed “turning the other cheek” was weak before later recognising its deeper meaning.
In December 2025, during a podcast appearance, Musk said he believes God exists, explaining that although people may use different terms, he believes the universe originated from something greater.
