US President Donald Trump began a five-day visit to the UK and Europe on July 25, 2025 a trip that stirred media attention even before his arrival, largely due to a bold headline from a Scottish newspaper.

Touching down in Scotland for a five-day leg of the trip, Trump is set to engage in trade discussions with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. He is also scheduled to visit his golf properties in the region.

However, the visit made headlines for more than just its diplomatic agenda. The Scottish daily The National published a provocative front page on the day of Trump’s arrival, declaring: "Convicted US Felon to Arrive in Scotland," alongside a striking image of the president’s official portrait, his expression stern and unflinching.

The front-page jab referenced Trump’s recent criminal conviction making him the first sitting or former US president to hold that status while in office.

The newspaper was referring to the charges for which he was convicted in 2024 before the US elections, including the hush money case. Before his return to the White House in 2024, Trump was found guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in May 2024.

This trip is one of Trump’s major visits abroad during his presidency since his tour of the Middle East in May. He has also attended the G7 Summit in Canada and the NATO Summit in the Netherlands.
