BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has won the Dhaka-17 and Bogra-6 constituencies in the 13th national parliamentary election, according to unofficial results, Dhaka Tribune reported, citing BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan.
Rahman contested the election from both seats. Earlier on Thursday, he cast his vote at the Gulshan Model High School and College polling centre in Dhaka at around 9:30 am. He was accompanied by his wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, and daughter, Zaima Rahman.
The results indicate a strong showing for the BNP chairman as vote counting continues across the country.
Meanwhile, the latest updates from Bangladesh’s February 12 parliamentary elections show the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leading in 60 constituencies so far. The Jamaat-e-Islami alliance is ahead in 18 seats, while the National Citizens Party holds a lead in one constituency.
Voter turnout stood at about 48 per cent by 2 pm, according to Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, as reported by the state-run BSS news agency.
