Indian influencer Parth Vijayvergiya shared his costly US healthcare experience after a minor knee injury, revealing a $1,800 bill despite insurance. His video sparked online debate about high American living costs and comparisons with India.

An Indian influencer based in the United States has triggered a wider online discussion after sharing his experience of what he described as an unexpectedly expensive healthcare bill following a minor injury in New York.

The influencer, Parth Vijayvergiya, posted the video on Instagram, calling it an “Insane healthcare cost in real life incident.” He began by addressing a common perception about life in the United States.

“Many people say that America is very expensive. I live here, so let me give you some examples of how expensive it is,” he said.

‘Someone hit my knee very hard’

Vijayvergiya went on to recount how the incident occurred on Christmas night while he was ice skating with his wife and sister.

“Someone hit my knee very hard. I thought I had an injury in my knee, a fracture,” he said, describing the pain that followed.

Despite the discomfort, he chose not to call for emergency services.

“The cost of the ambulance here is very high. So calling the ambulance was out of the question,” he explained, adding that he instead took a taxi to the hospital.

A short ER visit, then a shock bill

According to Vijayvergiya, he spent about 90 minutes in the emergency room. During that time, doctors conducted an X-ray, examined his knee, and applied a compression bandage.

“They tied a bandage, which is for impacts, for muscle pull. I tied it, and they sent me home,” he said.

The real surprise, however, came weeks later.

“Three weeks later, my insurance told me that you have to pay $1,800, more than 1.5 lakh rupees,” Vijayvergiya claimed.

He added that his insurance company separately paid the hospital between $4,000 and $4,500 for the visit.

‘That’s why America is so expensive’

Reflecting on the experience, Vijayvergiya summed up his takeaway in blunt terms.

“That $1,800 is being charged to me after a visit of 1.5 hours, and that’s why America is so expensive. That’s why salaries are high here,” he said.

He ended the video by encouraging viewers to follow him for more real-life experiences from living in the US.

Social media reacts with humour and patriotism

The video quickly drew a wave of comments, ranging from practical observations to light-hearted nationalism.

“Salaries are high, expenses are high,” one user wrote, while another joked, “USA jobs pay great, right until life sends the invoice.”

Some commenters urged viewers to look at costs in context.

“You are earning there and spending there, you can’t compare it with India,” one person noted.

Others welcomed the honesty. “Do share more videos like such incidents so people can understand the ground reality,” a commenter said.

A few responses struck a nostalgic note, encouraging a return home.

“Aaja bhai India wapas,” wrote one user, while others added, “Bharat hi best hai” and “Mera Bharat Mahaan.”

The video has since become part of a broader online conversation about the true cost of living abroad and how headline salaries often mask everyday expenses.
