Perched high up in the rugged terrain of the Himalayan region of Himachal Pradesh is a so-called loneliest post office in the world. This little branch in the Hikkim village of Spiti Valley is the highest post office in the world and is approximately located 4,724 metres above sea level. Thousands of postcards are being stamped by the postmaster every year, most of them being sent to family and friends worldwide. In the eyes of visitors, it turns into a physical memory of being on the frontier of civilisation, with no one around and with epic scenery.

Not only is this little branch not a mere postal point in itself, but it is an embodiment of human strength and the timeless appeal of snail mail. It is the expression of the fact that even in the digital age, traditional services can be emotional and practical. Even in one of the most grimy places on the planet, the loneliest post office in the world shows that despite all the difficulties, human interconnections and communication do not disappear.
