As culinary travel becomes one of Asia’s biggest travel trends in 2025, Indian travellers are emerging as the most enthusiastic seekers of breakfast-included stays, according to Agoda’s latest data.
The digital travel platform’s ranking, based on searches made in August 2025, found that 14% of Indian travellers used the “breakfast included” filter when searching for accommodations — the highest proportion among all Asian travellers.
Thailand (13%) and Malaysia (12%) follow closely behind, while Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia (all 9%), and Vietnam (8%) complete the list of top nationalities most likely to prioritise a complimentary breakfast.
Breakfast: The Second Most Important Filter After Star Ratings
Agoda’s insights show that a free breakfast is far more than a nice-to-have — it’s now one of the most important factors in travellers’ booking decisions. The platform reports that the “breakfast included” filter ranks as the second most used search criterion, right after star ratings.
This trend underscores a broader mindset among modern travellers: the desire for value, convenience, and local flavour in every aspect of their stay. A complimentary breakfast doesn’t just save money — it sets the tone for the day, offering a chance to sample local cuisines and experience warm hospitality before the first adventure begins.
Why Indians Love a Good Breakfast Deal
From lavish buffets in Goa’s beach resorts to authentic poha spreads in Jaipur and dosa platters in Bengaluru, Indian travellers increasingly view breakfast as part of the travel experience rather than a routine meal.
“Indian travelers are clearly showing their preference for stays that include breakfast, with one in seven using this filter when searching for accommodation on Agoda,” said Gaurav Malik, Country Director, Indian Subcontinent & Indian Ocean Islands at Agoda.
He added, “This highlights the growing demand for convenience, value, and authentic experiences while traveling. Agoda’s easy-to-use platform and intuitive search filters make it simple for travelers to find properties that meet their needs, whether they’re looking for comfort, budget, or unique local flavors.”
Culinary Travel Gains Ground Across Asia
The rise in breakfast-included bookings reflects a larger regional shift towards culinary-led travel. From street food tours to local cooking classes, travellers across Asia are seeking authentic food experiences that connect them to the destination.
In countries like Thailand and Vietnam, where breakfast culture features noodle soups, rice dishes, and tropical fruits, the inclusion of morning meals in hotel stays becomes a natural extension of the journey.
Meanwhile, in India, where regional breakfasts vary dramatically — from parathas in the north to idlis in the south — the joy of waking up to a well-curated spread adds both comfort and character to any trip.
Seamless Planning, Global Reach
For travellers looking to plan their next breakfast-included escape, Agoda offers more than 6 million holiday properties, 130,000 flight routes, and over 300,000 activities, all bookable within a single seamless platform.
