Indian Railways is making it easier than ever to travel to the Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj with a smart digital solution designed for seamless ticket booking. For the first time, visitors can simply scan QR codes on the green jackets of railway staff at Prayagraj station or on posters around the Mela area to book their tickets.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the world’s largest spiritual gatherings, will take place from January 13 to February 26, 2025, drawing over 40 crore visitors to the sacred confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and Sarasvati rivers. This grand festival is an important event in Hinduism, where millions of devotees gather to take a ritual dip in the holy waters, believed to cleanse them of sins and bring spiritual renewal.
To book tickets, passengers can scan the QR code using their smartphones, which will redirect them to download the UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) app from the Google Play Store. Once installed, travelers can book tickets for short trips (50-100 km) or long-distance journeys over 200 km, with long-distance tickets available up to 15 days in advance.
To accommodate the massive crowds, Indian Railways will operate 3,124 special trains in addition to 10,100 regular trains between January 10 and February 28. With 278 ticket counters and enhanced infrastructure at Prayagraj station, which can now handle up to 1.02 million passengers daily, the entire system is geared up for a smooth and efficient experience.
This new initiative promises to make traveling to the Maha Kumbh Mela hassle-free, allowing devotees to focus on the spiritual journey ahead while experiencing the grandeur of one of India's most sacred events.
