Planning to fly soon? Make sure you're aware of the updated hand luggage regulations from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
To address increasing passenger traffic and long security lines, BCAS and CISF are tightening one cabin bag rule to speed up security checks and ease congestion at airports. The goal? A smoother, quicker journey for you. Here’s what you need to know to ensure a hassle-free travel experience:
1. One Cabin Bag Per Passenger
Pack light! You’re allowed only one cabin bag on board. Any extra bags? They’ll need to be checked in.
2. Weight Limits of Cabin Bag for Different Classes
Make sure your carry-on complies with these new weight restrictions:
Economy/Premium Economy: 7 kg
Business/First Class: 10 kg
3. Size Restrictions for Cabin Bag
Avoid any surprises at the gate by ensuring your cabin bag fits within these dimensions:
Height: 55 cm (21.6 inches)
Length: 40 cm (15.7 inches)
Width: 20 cm (7.8 inches)
4. Exemptions for Tickets Booked Before May 2, 2024
Airlines have set a maximum hand baggage dimension of 115 cm (height + length + width). Passengers exceeding the weight or size limits may face additional baggage charges. However, passengers who booked their tickets before May 2, 2024, are eligible for the following exemptions:
Domestic: 8 kg
Premium Economy: 10 kgBusiness Class: 12 kg

To breeze through security, pack light and keep your hand luggage compact. Always double-check your airline’s updated baggage policy before your flight to ensure your cabin bag meets the new rules. A little prep goes a long way for a smooth airport experience!
