US lawmakers have introduced a bill seeking sanctions on Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, over alleged political persecution, including Imran Khan’s detention. The bill demands penalties like visa bans, though experts doubt the US will impose such sanctions.

In a post on X on Friday, the 72-year-old former cricketer-turned-politician said, “I was offered the opportunity of a three-year exile while I was in Attock Jail, but I will live and die in Pakistan”.
National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq facilitated the talks held in the parliament house. Later, he told the media that the two sides participated in good spirits and with the commitment to continue the process.
While the 72-year-old former cricketer-turned-politician remains behind bars due to other ongoing cases, Bibi was released in October after the Islamabad High Court approved her post-arrest bail plea.
In a post on X on Thursday, Khan asked supporters to converge on Dec. 13 in the northwestern city of Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province which is ruled by his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.
Police issued charges against Khan, Bibi and others in Islamabad and the city of Rawalpindi under Pakistan's anti-terrorism laws. Authorities accuse them of inciting people to attack security forces and disrupting the peace.
The midnight crackdown forced Imran Khan's supporters to evacuate the D-Chowk and its adjacent main business district of the capital, ending their protest, which his party described as a “massacre” under the “fascist military regime”
Earlier on Tuesday evening, PTI supporters battled law enforcing agencies and succeeded in reaching the D-Chowk for a sit-in till their leader told otherwise as part of their protest march to Islamabad that started on Sunday

Officials said the ban is aimed at ensuring peace by stopping any unlawful gathering in the current security environment.
His sister Aleema Khan, after meeting him in the Adiala Jail Rawalpindi, told the media that everyone from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, including workers, members of parliament, and party supporters, should join the protest.
Put my name on (the) no-fly list permanently -- I am not going anywhere. First, (former prime minister) Nawaz Sharif left the country; now, his daughter (Punjab chief minister Maryam Sharif) has also gone," said a post on his X account on Thursday.
“You (Imran Khan) should better sit where you are or home, and keep quiet as you will never return to power as you are done and dusted," Maryam said and added even the rival PTI leaders are now saying Punjab is progressing.
“The Punjab government lifted the ban on the meetings of prisoners in Adiala Jail,” a senior officer said.
