Carl Pei, the man who co-founded OnePlus and later went on to start his own tech brand, Nothing, has finally put an end to one of the biggest questions fans have been asking for years—will he ever return to OnePlus? His answer? A firm, straight-faced “Never.”
During the launch event of the Nothing Phone 3a series, Pei sat down with interviewers Rob C and Louise. When asked about the possibility of returning to OnePlus, Pei didn't hesitate. His response was short, final and it clearly did not leave any room for speculation.
For those who don’t know, Carl Pei was a key figure behind OnePlus. He co-founded the company in 2013 alongside Pete Lau, and under his leadership, OnePlus became one of the most loved smartphone brands in the world. He was around the time when OnePlus produced gems like the OnePlus 7 series among others.
However, in 2020, Pei left OnePlus and went on to create Nothing—a smartphone known for its unique design and minimalism. Since then, Nothing has launched multiple products, including the Phone (1), Phone (2), and a lineup of wireless earbuds.
While OnePlus has changed a lot over the years, especially after its deeper integration with its parent company, Oppo, Pei has clearly moved on. His “never” leaves no doubt, he is completely focused on building Nothing, and OnePlus is now just part of his past.
For fans hoping for a Pei-OnePlus reunion, it's time to let go. Nothing is his future, and that’s where his focus remains.
