Meta recently introduced the Meta AI chatbot, the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot on its messaging app WhatsApp, and it has already become popular amongst most users. It is also available on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger applications. While it has impressive text capabilities, such as replying to questions or queries, Meta is now reportedly working on a new update that will allow Meta AI to reply to photos sent by users and edit them.

According to the WhatsApp update tracker WABetaInfo, this new feature was spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.14.20. Since the feature is still under development, it is not available for all beta testers. However, WABetaInfo has also shared screenshots of the AI feature, highlighting its capabilities.

The screenshot shared by the feature tracker also reveals that WhatsApp with the help of Meta AI will provide full control to users to modify the images, and they would be allowed to delete them at any time. Moreover, the screenshot suggests that Meta AI will offer the option to edit photos, enabling users to these photos directly within the chatbot with a custom prompt.

The ability to edit images is already available on other generative AI models like ChatGPT and Gemini AI. Some of Llama 3's open-sourced models can also do it, but for that users will have to locally run those models, without any source material to be accessed.

This editing image feature also adds convenience to the WhatsApp user experience, as it will allow users to make quick edits and adjustments to their photos directly within the app, saving them time.
