WhatsApp is testing a couple of new features for its Android app, which would provide users with new functionalities and improve the interface. The first ‘Reshare Status Updates’ feature is currently in the development stages and aims to enhance the user experience by allowing users to reshare status updates on their profile
Currently under development and spotted by WABetaInfo in the Android’s app beta version 2.24.16.4, this upcoming feature adds a quick shortcut button to reshare status updates and allows users to share status updates as is or by further customizing them. For now, it’s unclear if WhatsApp will notify users when their status is reshared.
This feature is similar to Instagram’s reshare status feature. It will also save users the hassle of taking screenshots or requesting the original uploader to send the media privately so that they can reshare the status from their profile.
Another feature, which is already available on Instagram and could now be available on WhatsApp is the double tap to react feature. This feature was spotted in WhatsApp for Android beta app version 2.24.16.7 and it would allow users to quickly react to messages by double-tapping them.
WABetaInfo further suggests, that currently a default ‘heart emoji' appears when reacting to messages, similar to Meta’s other apps including Instagram and Facebook. This would make reacting to messages much quicker by allowing a double-tap functionality to react instead of the current long press-to-hold functionality.
We expect both of these features to be rolled out in the coming weeks for the WhatsApp Android app.
