WhatsApp has quietly pushed one of its most requested features into public testing: native multi-account support. The latest beta build on TestFlight introduces the ability to add and switch between multiple WhatsApp accounts on a single iPhone, a feature that until now required awkward workarounds or the separate WhatsApp Business app.
According to WABetaInfo, some beta testers are now seeing a new “Account List” section in WhatsApp’s settings, or a quick-access button beside the QR code icon. Tapping it allows users to add a second account directly within the app, without needing another device or a Business profile. WhatsApp is also laying the groundwork for usernames, hinting at a broader identity revamp beyond phone numbers.
For now, the beta supports only two accounts. The second profile can be brand-new, linked to a fresh phone number, or an existing account that previously lived on WhatsApp Business or another device. Users can also link a companion account — one already active on a different phone — by simply scanning a QR code. Once connected, all messages and settings sync automatically to the primary device.
Each account operates independently, with its own chat history, backup preferences and notification tones. Notifications will also clearly label which account they belong to, reducing the risk of responding from the wrong profile.
While WhatsApp hasn’t shared a public rollout timeline, the feature appears to be fairly advanced in testing. With multi-account support and usernames both in development, WhatsApp is gearing up for one of its biggest usability upgrades in years.
